World Trade Center Project makes the local news :)

I was interviewed this afternoon for the 6:00 news here in Boise.  I met a lovely reporter at World Trade Center Sculpture Plaza at Riverside Park & did a short interview about the project.  The story aired at 6, & might air again at 10.   Here is a link to the video:
And this is what they had to say on the website :)

World Trade Center beam transforms to art in Boise

A beam left behind in the wreckage at the World Trade Center now calls Boise home.
Boise artist Amber Conger worked with a whole team for almost two years, to transform the damaged metal rod into a new sculpture in Riverside Park.
Just this week the finished sculpture, weighing nearly 4,000 pounds, was mounted in Riverside Park to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, nearly 12 years ago.
“It was scary, it was very scary, not knowing, you know, watching it all happen and not knowing what’s going to happen next, and where any of your people that you know are,” Amber Conger said.
We all remember where we were on that day in 2001, especially Conger.
“At the time I was a flight attendant actually,” Conger said. “And I was in Seattle getting ready to go to the airport and go to work, and I was watching the news and saw it all happen.”
Amber was honored to get involved with the project to give new life to the partial beam shipped to Boise from New York City.
“It’s just surreal to know what it is,” she said. “That’s really why I wanted to get involved in this project. It does hit home for me and I’m an artist and I feel like this type of project ,this is really what it’s all about.”
The beam itself remains in its original condition-exactly how it came from New York City- but metal rings now frame it, inspired by ripples in a pond.
The sculpture was mounted in Riverside Park alongside the pre-existing fallen firefighter memorial.
“That’s definitely the best part of the project when we were down here last week with the cranes and seeing it go into place,” Conger said. “It makes it all worth it, definitely, and I’m really happy that we got it done and in place in time for 9/11 this year.”
When the memorial is finished, names of the 343 first responders who lost their lives on 9/11 will be etched into a steel wall along one of the curved walkways in front of the sculpture; a way to remember those who risked their lives to save others.
On Wednesday a small ceremony will unveil the new artwork, and plants and final touches to the monument will be added in the coming weeks.

Pretty cool : )  There will be a dedication on September 11th; I'll post details as I have them; anyone is welcome to come.  For more information on the sculpture, dedication, and the project; please email me at refinerii@yahoo.com or contact me on my FB page.

new Postcards

New postcards on the way; whatcha think??
These are just for give-away at shows & the like; trying to be a bit more clear in all the stuffs we have to offer :)

Looking forward to next week--it's going to be busy: WTC fabrication, possible tv interview, lots of design work on the table, & of course keeping track of the bird herd...  Tonight the other Canadian goose decided she was grown up & flew away; I was expecting it, but still sad; she was so sweet.  Might have to bring home another Pilgrim this week to keep the other company ;)

Alarm is set for 6; first on the agenda is a nice long walk/run; then juice for breakfast!  Then it's phone calls & out to the shop for some good cleaning, organizing, & laying out trophies.

Have a good week!

Carnevale 2013: a magical evening at the Idaho Botanical Garden

I almost can't believe it's come & gone again; year #3 was a huge success!  Thanks to everyone who came out to the Garden & took part in the fun :)
The pic above is one of the few I had a chance to get; it was the very end; the fire dancers under the moon as the stars were just beginning to twinkle.  The crane was for the aerial silk dancer & also used as a stage earlier in the evening; thanks so much to ICS for taking part again this year!
And here I am; complete with a giant set of wings & lots of feathers; I think with the heels & all, I was over 7 feet tall; should have joined the stilt walkers, lol :)  Corset & hat are from SubSpace: the rest, I created/cut/pinned/glued/stapled the night before...
This year, the line-up included the Red Light Variety Show, Professor Algernon, Belly Dancers (with a huge snake), Fashion Show by Bourgios Chic, & fire finale by Pele Rising.
There was also a costume contest on the Red Carpet where guests got to show off their costume creations for a chance to take home one of the 3 grande-prize trophies that I designed & fabricated :)
our Best Top-Hat winner; she had an amazing costume & very creative angel/devil theme :)  Notice the trophy wings are miniatures of the ones I was wearing ; )
It was such a fun event; the costumes this year were over the top, & the performances were amazing; the Garden is such a magical place for events like this!
Even the kiddos got into dressing up this year!  Titus was a very close second to Best Top-Hat award :)
And doesn't Danielle look stunning?--she is a fellow artist who does amazingly dark & dramatic paintings & illustrations.
Another shot of my wings, hehehehe!
We don't have final numbers yet; but looks like over 600 this year :)
It was a huge success & lots of fun; thanks again to everyone who came to take part in the fun!
We are already making plans for next year; any suggestions; please feel free to email me at refinerii@yahoo.com
All proceeds from the event benefit the Idaho Botanical Garden; thanks again to everyone who came out :)

Special Thanks to:
Don't forget to like the FB Carnevale page for all the updates, latest pics, & more....  Hope to see you next year!

On Friday, the Framed Network crew came to my little shop for an interview & sneak peek into the fabrication process.  I will be making custom trophies for the first ever F-Awards: homering the very best of the best photographers from all over the world :)
They are putting together a little video for promotion, so I got to be a movie star for the day...

These are a few snaps taken in my shop :)

Welding looks so cool in photos, yes? ; )

Thanks so much to (queen) Nena Earl for the pics & for getting me involved in the project.

MaryJanesFarm Magazine: I'm in it, woohoo :)

OMG! I am in the current issue :)  It's available now: you can pick up a copy at Barnes & Noble or pretty much anywhere that has a magazine section.
It's so weird to see my pics on the pages (I've been a subscriber for years)  And even weirder to see someone at the checkout line with a copy: I wanted to run up to her & tell her about my article, lol :)

I got to meet Mary Jane herself & Meg last year in Minneapolis & then got an email early this summer asking for an interview for the magazine :)  I chatted it up on Skype with Ardis Eckle, & then waited to see the article in real life!  And then a couple weeks ago, I opened up the mailbox & there it was :)
Thanks so much to everyone at MJF for including me.

American Warrior 300 Trophy: Race Winner

Ricky Stenhouse Jr is the big winner of the American Warrior 300 & going home with one of my creations; how cool is that!   The race results are starting to come in all over the internet along with images; so surreal to see the trophy as part of it :)

From the Life of Duty Facebook Page:
The NRA American Warrior team is at the Atlanta Motor Speedway to cover the NRA American Warrior 300 NASCAR Nationwide race this Saturday, September 1. NRA commissioned Idaho sculpture Amber Conger to create a trophy from gun parts and military hardware that race officials have crowned the "most unique" trophy of the season.
I'm so glad that the trophy was well received; to be honest, I've been a bit stressed about it all week, lol :)  Unique is good; so happy that the project was a success.   I thought it was cool that after welding the scrap aluminum pieces together with the gun cut-outs; it was actually a pretty silhouette...
This has definately been one of my favorite trophy creations; again: thanks to everyone who helped me make it happen :)

Celebrating tonight...

New Jewelry on the Etsy Shop

The "Ice Queen" Set; necklace, earrings, & matching tiara: as seen at Boise Fashion Week :)
Aluminum, copper, & sparkling crystals; sooo different!  Adjustable length necklace with dangle-fishhook style earrings & a tiara with a silver hair-comb.
A one-of-a-kind set:

And...one of my favs (I love copper & purple is my fav color)
Created from almost all up-cycled industrial parts & pieces....
The big copper pieces are spent plasma-torch part; some of them has such a cool discoloration from the heat: it makes them even better!
This set looked soooo great on the runway at Fashion Week;
colorful & sparkling under the lights; I bet no-one even suspected it was made from mostly recycled parts & pieces, lol :)
Feminine, strong, industrial & pretty... love it!!

Thanks so much to Bourgeois Chic for letting me go wild with crazy new jewelry for the runway shows.  Also, thanks to Aubry Brower, Moz Couture, Nena Earl, Jim Reidenbaugh, Megan Wright  & Laurie Anne's Creations for the amazing photos!

Float the river in Boise.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.

What do you do to relax?
Garden, read, watch movies with my sweetheart, do lunch with my mom: we love to try any new place that pops up.

Paris; and when I got tired of it, would take the train over the mountains into Italy.

Any suggestions for those interested in selling their handmade items or vintage finds?
